Your saves, before every Play

Of everything that can go wrong in an alpha, a lost save is the one nobody forgives. So the launcher looks after them now.

Your saves

Every time you press Play, the launcher copies your saves aside first, and it does it again when you open it and they have changed since. A copy only counts once it has been read back and compared with the original. It keeps the very first backup for good, the ten newest, and one a day for a month, and a file that has not changed is not stored twice.

If a backup fails, Play stops and asks what you want to do, rather than carrying on without one.

In the settings, Saves lists each backup with whose saves are in it: the character, their level and where they were. Restore asks first, will not run while the game does, and backs up what is there now before it puts anything back, so even a restore can be undone.

None of this leaves your PC.

The mod's own files

The mod's files, also in the settings, compares every file of the installed mod with the release it came from. If one is missing or different, because an antivirus took it or a copy stopped halfway, Repair puts it back.

A crash that is not ours

When the game crashes inside another mod's DLL, the launcher now says so, names the mod, and says what usually helps: remove it, or find its Skyrim VR version. A few we already know, like VR Climbing with an older HIGGS, or MCM Helper on a setup where SkyUI VR is not working. Send the report and the fix comes straight back.

After every game that ended without a crash, it also notes your setup. When the next one crashes, it can tell you which SKSE plugins were added or updated in between, which is very often the whole answer.

If you agree to send a report and we have a question about it, the launcher shows you the question, and you can answer or not. You can leave a way to reach you if you like. Nobody has to.

And it only asks about crashes in games it started itself, never about the crash-shaped noise a normal quit leaves in the log. Before that, our own test PC, which had started the game another way all day, was greeted with seven old crashes at once.

Status

All of this is in the launcher on the download page, and installed launchers update themselves.

Free, open source, and it runs on the modlist you already have.
